Poetry Class for Bilingual Mandarin/English speakers

Capital Class hosted a workshop for Year 6 students in China and the UK last week. The poem chosen was ‘The Tyger’ by William Blake. We were joined by the budding bilingual poets for discussion on how the poem makes us feel, how it creates tone/mood and what wider themes are at play. Students captured their ideas on imagery, rhyme and metaphor brilliantly by writing rhyming couplets of their own. But the highlight was the students’ reading of the poem, breathing fire and life into Blake’s words!
